It provides minimalist replacements for most of the utilities you usually find in GNU coreutils, util-linux, etc. The utilities in BusyBox generally have fewer options than their full-featured GNU cousins; however, the options that are included provide the expected functionality and behave very much like their GNU counterparts. BusyBox has been written with size-optimization and limited resources in mind. It is also extremely modular so you can easily include or exclude commands or features at compile time. Introduction to Unix commands
Following is a very brief introduction to some useful Unix commands, including examples of how to use each command. For more extensive information about any of these commands, use the man command as described below. Sources for more information appear at the end of this document. This command outputs the contents of a text file. You can use it to read brief files or to concatenate files together. Because cat displays text without pausing, its output may quickly scroll off your screen. Use the less command described below or an editor for reading longer text files. For more, see Combine several text files into a single file in Unix.
The clock command is a platform independent method of getting the display functionality of the unix date command, and provides access to the values returned by a unix gettime call. The date of the epoch varies for different operating systems, thus this value is useful for comparison purposes, or as an input to the clock format command. The format subcommand formats a clockvalue as returned by clock seconds into a human readable string.
