So, in order to avoid loner status, you can use your smartphone to track and locate your peeps. This app is great, but it will only locate other iPhone users.

Some of your friends may not have an iPhone, so they would be SOL. There is also a Find My Friends app for Android, but again, you will only be able to find other Android users.

But, there is one app that can locate your friends no matter what phone they are carrying—even if you know someone who still uses a Blackberry although they will need a Gmail address.

It's called Google Latitude , and it's actually been around for quite a while. Google Latitude shares your location with your group just like Find My Friends. You can add friends using your Gmail account and their Gmail address. So, now any one of your friends with a Gmail account can be located no matter what device. To make it even easier to keep track of your friends, you can utilize the Check In feature, which allows you to give pinpoint location information to all of your friends.

Now, you should be aptly equipped to venture off into the wild without ever having to worry about losing your friends. This would have been very useful for this guy. How to share your location (without broadcasting it to the world)

Find My Friends allows you to easily locate friends and family using your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Just install the app and share your location with your friends by choosing from your contacts, entering their email addresses or phone numbers, or using AirDrop. Find My Friends lets you set up location-based alerts that can notify you automatically when a friend arrives at the airport, a child leaves school, or a family member arrives home safely. You can also set up alerts to notify friends about changes in your location.

Fortunately, Android users have several app alternatives for location sharing with people who use either Android or iOS; in most cases, everyone you want to share your location with will need to install an app. Many of these apps not only show you a device's location, but also its battery level, so when a device disappears you can deduce it was due to a low battery.

The app is codenamed GreenTorch and it is currently under beta. As 9to5Mac reports , the new app will combine the same features as the two existing apps into a unified and improved version. Further, the report mentions that all devices of a user — and their family — can be located using the new app, including AirPods. In addition to that, Apple is also working on a new hardware product, known internally as 'B'.
